North Carolina CNA Written Practice Exam

If you scheduled your North Carolina Nurse Aide I exam through Pearson VUE before, that's changed. Testing moved to Credentia, scheduled through their CNA365 platform, a genuinely useful thing to know since old instructions referencing Pearson VUE registration are now outdated.

The path: 75 hours of state-approved Nurse Aide I training, then the NNAAP competency exam, written (or oral) plus a separate skills evaluation. Both parts have to be passed.

A real flexibility most guides don't mention: the written exam is available in an oral format too, in English or Spanish, for candidates who need it. That's not a workaround, it's a built-in accommodation option worth knowing about if reading comprehension under timed pressure isn't your strongest area, even though the underlying content knowledge is the same either way.

Identification requirements are unusually strict. You need two forms of current, non-expired, government-issued ID, and one of them specifically has to be a signed, non-laminated Social Security card (or current military ID with your SS number on it). The second form needs to be photo-bearing, a driver's license, passport, state ID, or similar. Show up without the right combination and you won't test, and your exam fee won't be refunded. This trips up more candidates than the actual exam content does.

Attempts are capped. You get up to three tries at the NNAAP exam, and both the written and skills portions have to be passed within two years of completing your training program, or within those three attempts, whichever limit you hit first. Miss both windows, and you're back to retaking the full training program before you can test again.

Once you pass, you're typically listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry within about five business days.

Given the hard cap on attempts and the strict ID requirements that have nothing to do with your actual competency, treat both halves seriously: know your ID situation cold before exam day, and prepare thoroughly enough that you're not relying on having three chances.
